TRINITY CORONATION OF MARIA. SPANISH BAROQUE SCHOOL. S. XVII.

Height: 65 cm
Width: 55 cm
Depth: 15 cm

Wood carving sculpture, carved, golden and polychrome, which one represents the crowning of Mary. On elder periods, the Virgin is already represented in the Byzantine art as the throne of her divine child and also, her coronation will be represented to finish accentuating her royal ancestry of David’s house.
The iconography of the Trinitarian Coronation will link the image of Mary Queen with the divine triangle formed by Father – Son – Holy Spirit (dove).
The growth of dedication to Mary in the altarpieces of the churches from Gothic and especially in the Baroque and since the coronation will be one of the glorious mysteries of the Rosary, will make this representation extend through the temples, especially for the expansion from the worship of the Virgin of Roser. This is the case of this piece, which, as a single panel, is extracted from a larger altarpiece.

From Spanish private collection.
