IMMACULATE CONCEPTION.
HEAD AND PAW SCULPTURE. CATALONIA. 19th CENTURY.
Height: 110 cm
Width: 50 cm
Depth: 28 cm
Sculpture of large proportions representing the Immaculate Conception, with a detailed base formed with clouds, a crescent moon and a large snake or dragon representing the devil.
It is characteristic of this type of sculpture called “head and paw or dress” that only the visible parts of the figure (head, hands and feet) are worked and well finished and the rest of the body is just a structure or frame to hold clothes. This frame is interesting because, unlike the round embalum sculptures, the arms are articulated and allow their position to be changed.
It is practically intact except for a small crack on the face.
From a private collection in Catalonia.
Price: 2,250 €
