RANGDA FEMALE DEMON. HINDUISM. ISLAND OF BALI. Nineteenth century.

Height: 21 cm

Exquisite old wood carvings with remains of polychrome, of the RANGDA female demon, the darkest part of the Queen of Witches DEWI DURGA, from Hindus mythology in Bali. The devil is accompanied by a trinity of animals: snake – bird – turtle.
This small sculpture is surprising for the great amount of details. It only remains disfigured by a natural crack in the back, of the wood itself.
The work has a support at the bottom, which suggests that it was the completion of some decoration or altarpiece.

Origin: Private collection of Paris.
